- “Watts, Knight and Mullins chased each other around at first, then Hawk and Kearney caught up and made it a five way battle, then Knight dropped back with bike troubles, then Mullins started saying he felt dizzy”
- “The last lap turned out to be an all-out slugfest with Watts, Kearney and Hawk, which ended with Hawk and Kearney diving inside and outside of each other over and over in the final field section, and Rodney Tomblin going nuts on the microphone calling each pass. In the next to last turn, Hawk dove to the inside and made the final pass.”
- ”Kearney collapsed (at the finish).. unfortunately, he fell right into Kris Dudley, who is one of our finish line scanners”
- “.. Watts came across the line exhausted, too, and he almost passed out right next to all of this. Watts was able to make his way to the podium a few minutes later, but Glenn and Chris had to go to the hospital. There they were joined by our photographer, Jason Hooper, who had got hit hard by Paul Whibley during the race while shooting pics. Hooper’s camera gave him a huge gash on the forehead and Paul’s bike left an even bigger one on his leg. He went to the hospital and had about 20 stitches overall.”
